Quarters

Towny Quarters lets towns create smaller, 3D claim areas inside their land called quarters. Think of it like apartments, shops, rooms, basements, towers - anywhere you want more precise protection than an entire Towny plot.

Quarters can also have their own permissions that can override normal plot perms, so you can control who can build, open chests, use buttons, etc - even inside the same townblock.

What you can use Quarters for

  • Renting out apartments inside a single plot
  • A player shop area inside a public market plot
  • A private vault room under a public building
  • Nation or ally-only war rooms
  • Staff-only backstage areas in a town spawn

Key ideas

  • A Quarter is a 3D area inside a town (not limited to the chunk grid).
  • Quarters have their own permissions like:
    • build
    • destroy
    • switch (doors, buttons, levers)
    • itemuse (items like buckets, flint & steel, etc - server dependent)
  • Quarter permissions can be set for groups like:
    • resident
    • nation
    • ally
    • outsider

Basic commands

Most servers support both:

  • /quarters ...
  • /q ... (short alias)

Useful starter commands:

  • /quarters - shows help
  • /quarters here - shows info about the quarter you are standing in (and often its perms)

Creating and managing quarters

1) Make a selection

Most servers let you define a quarter using a selection tool/wand or selection commands.

Common selection commands you might see:

  • /quarters selection ... (add, remove, paste, etc)

2) Create the quarter

Once selected, you create it with a create/claim-style command (varies by server setup). If you’re unsure, do:

  • /quarters and look for create/claim options in the help.

3) Name it

  • /quarters set name <name>

4) Trust players

Many servers use a trust system so you can give someone full access to your quarter:

  • /q trust add <player>
  • /q trust remove <player>

5) Set quarter permissions

Quarters can have their own permission rules:

  • /quarters set perm <type> <group> <true|false>

Permission types commonly include: switch, itemuse, build, destroy.

Examples:

  • Allow allies to build:
    • /quarters set perm build ally true
  • Allow nation to open chests/use doors (switch):
    • /quarters set perm switch nation true

Useful quarter settings

Depending on server features, you may be able to:

  • Set an anchor/home point for the quarter:
    • /quarters set anchor
  • Change the quarter colour (often used for outlines/visuals):
    • /quarters set colour
  • Toggle entry notifications:
    • /quarters set entrynotification
  • Change particle size for outlines:
    • /quarters set particlesize
